Class Afloat

GULDEN LEEUW is the new tall ship of Class Afloat

The owners of the GULDEN LEEUW share with pride that the GULDEN LEEUW new tall ship is for the academic year 2016-2017 of Class Afloat.

New Chapter

Class Afloat - West Island College International, founded in 1984, is one of the world's leading, leading providers of experiential education.

Class Afloat continually strives to be the most effective and appropriate platform for their academic goals, social programs and sail training experience. As such, it was decided to begin a new chapter in the history of Class Afloat aboard the GULDEN LEEUW.

Both the owners of the GULDEN LEEUW and Class Afloat are proud and excited about this new collaboration. For 30 years, aboard four different ships that have visited hundreds of different ports and have made many thousands of nautical miles, Class Afloat has more than 1,500 students given the experience of their lives.

Both parties believe that the class of 2016 - 2017 will develop the same bond of love and respect for the ship and the same magic of the Class Afloat program will experience as the alumni who have the previous four ships hazards.

Sail Training program
In 2013, the GULDEN LEEUW won the Sail Training International (STI) award for the most innovative Sail Training program. The sail training program involves students in every aspect of the sails of a tall ship, trip planning to plotting the course, organizing the guard set sail, steering the ship and starting and controlling the motors . The sail training program aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to perform the full command of the ship on fixed days (under the watchful eye of the master and professional crew).

The 2016-2017 itinerary is an exciting one that offers our crew the opportunity to visit 17 ports on 4 continents. We will explore some of the world's most interesting cultures and natural settings in Europe, the Mediterranean, Africa, the Caribbean and South America.
The year will begin on September 6, 2016 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and finish with our grand arrival in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada on May 21, 2017 and graduation on May 22, 2017.
